Tucked away in a sleepy corner of Camana Bay, Carnivore was a butcher that sold quality premium meats, that it then used in its attached restaurant. Usually a recipe for success, but was it any good? Time to find out...
Ideal for:
A relaxed meal in a secluded setting where you are away from the hustle.
Those that really want good quality steak and meats for a hearty lunch.
A catch up with mates or an intimate date.
Ambience & Décor
Given it was just a butcher’s shop with outdoor seating, they have tried to make it look cool and clean, with an interior consisting of white marbled counters, grey tiled flooring contrasted with a period black wall with Carnivore’s name and logo embossed on it. Carnivore went for the light-dark contrast outside too with oak tables and black chairs. It was always quiet here, so no real ambience to speak of.
Service
You ordered food at the counter inside, and they brought it to your table. Service inside and out was always friendly, and fast – great if you have an hour for lunch.
Food
The real reason you are here. I have tried their steak from the butcher’s case cooked medium rare, and it was nice without blowing me away. My favourite was the Tex-Mex Steak Salad (see left), which was Shaved prime sirloin, mixed greens, cherry tomatoes, corn salsa, radish, peppers, caramelized onions, lime crema, honey chipotle dressing. As salads go, this was one of the best in Cayman. The corn salsa was terrific, but the highlight was the complement between the lime crema and the chipotle dressing. Tang, bitterness, spice, heat, and sweetness in every mouthful, an explosion of amazing moreish flavour. The steak being perfectly cooked helped. Overall, my experiences at Carnivore have been amazing and this salad was worth the trip. Solid A rating.
