Ambience & Décor

Christopher's Interior

Despite being an American restaurant, the art-deco style interior in this Grade II listed building gives the dining room a British elegance and glamour. It is one of the most upmarket venues for an American eatery. The eclectic crown mouldings on the ceiling and walls are illuminated by neon lighting to accentuate this. The reserved colour schemes typical of the fine dining scene. Classy, quaint and sophisticated.

Service

All waiters and waitresses were dressed to impress and their polished, slick and efficient manner was expected. Whilst our waitress lacked warmth, she was accommodating.

Food

Corn Beef Hash with Béarnaise Sauce and Poached Egg

The Corn Beef Hash with Béarnaise Sauce and Poached Egg (left) was a multi-faceted dish. The beef chunks were succulent with natural flavours of the beef intact in the medley of ingredients. The hash potatoes were crispy outside and fluffy inside with the much-needed sweetness from the caramelised onions. Poached egg and Béarnaise are an ineffable combo whilst adding good textures, vibrancy and subtlety. It is tricky to make hash look sexy, but Christopher’s managed it. For £15, there was plenty of food on the plate, and as such presented great value.

The other savouries of Christopher's Hamburger and Eggs Florentine were a hit with the dining party. Whilst not as aesthetically pleasing as mine, all had great flavours and textures

Blueberry Buttermilk Pancakes

The Blueberry Buttermilk Pancakes (right) are synonymous with brunch. Whilst the pancakes were light, it felt as if it was missing something. Adding some vanilla essence in the batter might have done the trick. In addition, the syrup was too sickly, and but the Blueberry Compote was delicious.

Chocolate Brioche French Toast with Vanilla Ice Cream

The highlight of the brunch was the Chocolate Brioche French Toast (Milk or Dark) with Vanilla Ice Cream (left)

The brioche was perfectly fluffy and toasted to perfection with a soft centre and crisp edges. Pouring the decadent warm hot chocolate sauce on the perfectly spherical cold ice-cream in one for Instagram. Light brioche, dense hot chocolate sauce and creamy cold ice cream are a perfect match. Every bite was delicious, bur it is quite rich, so glad I was sharing. Great value at £12 I felt.

As brunch places go, the venue was classy and eclectic, the service is slick and professional and the food is tasty and hearty. The hash and the brioche toast was exemplary. However, my dining party felt short-changed on many of their dishes and I do agree. Because of this, Christopher’s gets an A rating.

Final grade: A

Final comment: Beautiful venue matched by some tasty food and good service.
