Din Tai Fung was universally known as being a dim sum specialist, and I have always wanted to try it ever since they graced London with their presence. When I saw they were in Las Vegas, I was going. Was it any good? Time to find out...
Ideal for:
When you cannot eat the rich food on The Strip and want a light option.
A great meal as a group before you hit the town and casinos.
When you are craving some Dim Sum and Chinese dishes.
Ambience & Décor
This had to be one of the best venues to eat in, with the large floor to ceiling windows letting in swathes of natural light, light coloured walls, pillars, and ceilings contrasted with the darker tables, chairs, and shiny marbled flooring. The restaurant was cavernous and packed, hence there was a buzzing vibe. The Aria was lucky to have such an accomplished restaurant in their complex.
Service
Given how much square footage the waitresses had to cover and the sheer number of people in, it was not surprising the service was a tad slow, but the food was hot when it came, so cannot complain too much.
Food
Decided to try 4 dim sum plates given I was not overtly hungry. I was very happy with the Crab and Kurobuta pork xiao long bao (see left). Two flavours I adore so it was a palate pleaser for me. The Vegetable fried noodles were the surprise. Given I am pro-rice, this was delicious and combined with my chilli oil, was a delicious dish. The Chicken and Mushroom Steamed Buns were a tad bland, so the accompanying sauces were needed. The Shrimp and Kurobuta pork spicy wontons were shrimp and pork steam wontons in an incredibly tasty spicy sauce. I think this was a fantastic way to round of a wholesome meal where those 4 items did for me. Din Tai Fung has such an extensive menu, I would love to come back and find the real gems, but for a first try, I think the service was the only real blemish, and hence an A- rating.
