Many have recommended Dirty Bones, so when the brunch opportunity arose, decided to take some friends to the Soho branch. Was it any good? Time to find out…
Ideal for:
A quick pre theatre bite
Eating on a budget
Rustic dining
Ambience & Décor
Exposed bare brick with wall hangings, the neon sign at the far end and a medley of differing wooden finishes (oak and mahogany) culminate in a trendy décor, akin to the Soho area. The moderate interior has a welcoming feel, and this feeling is accentuated by the lively vibes created by the other diners. Good ambience for brunch.
Service
Some thrive under the pressure of a full restaurant, but it was evident Dirty Bones Soho was creaking at the seams. I felt the time taken between ordering and receiving the food was an indeterminate age passed only by the lovely company.
Food
The only dish sampled was the Short Rib Hash (left). This is a 14 hour slow-cooked pulled short rib with caramelised shallots, mustard seeds and potatoes. I love a good Hash as it is a culinary complete dish. Plenty of meat with plenty of veg! I was surprised at the quality. The short rib was tender but some parts were a tad dry. Thankfully the accompanying sauce alleviated the issue. The star were the perfectly cooked crispy potatoes and thank goodness there were ample. Despite being satisfied, the Hash I reviewed at Christopher’s (see previous review) was streets ahead. Yes, it was pricier there, but far better.
For the price, what I ate at Dirty Bones Soho presented good value. Yes, there were gripes with the food and service, but I can overlook them for the sake of the overall good experience. Will return and as such have given Dirty Bones Soho a B Rating.
