Duck & Waffle (London)

Updated: Jan 24

Duck & Waffle opened to rave reviews and critical acclaim, with particular raving for the duck & waffle and the full Elvis waffle. But was it any good? Time to find out...

Ideal for:

  • City slickers day or night

  • Dining with a great view

  • All Occasions

Ambience & Décor

View from D&W

Perched on the 40th floor of the iconic Heron Tower, the external lift (which isn’t for those who suffer from vertigo) transports you to above the clouds and into the wood and glass interior of Duck & Waffle. The panoramic views hit you immediately, and a sunny day just accentuates the beauty.

Open Kitchen at D&W

The overall décor is unspectacular – the wooden flooring and furniture is quite easy to maintain – but it does not need to be anything fanciful, as you let the restaurant’s party pieces take over. The semi-open modern kitchen with the chefs preparing and plating food adds to the ambience (right). Coupled with the diners, Duck & Waffle is a very vibrant restaurant and a brilliant atmosphere to dine in.

Service

The service was immaculate despite the restaurant being packed. Given there is rarely a spare seat, to maintain such levels of service should be lauded. Despite taking an age to order, the waiter never lost their patience, and brought our food with a loving smile.

Food

Examining the signature namesake dish, the moist duck had a perfectly crisped exterior. Great foil to the soft waffle, the sweet syrup complemented the savoury tones.

However, the dish that stole the show was the Full Elvis with bacon (bottom centre). A waffle served with peanut butter & jelly, banana brûlée, Chantilly cream, and an assortment of berries, all garnished with a light dusting of sugar. The trifecta of peanut butter, jelly and banana is sublime without being sickly sweet. The flavour medley is not overbearing and one can savour each constituent part of the dish. This is all prior to adding the crispy bacon to the mix – I am salivating just thinking about it. This is the dish with the 'wow' factor.

Having been to Duck & Waffle numerous times aside from this review, it has yet to disappoint. The combination of amazing food, great service and superlative views justify Duck & Waffle’s position as one of London’s hottest restaurants. Easy A+ rating.
