Felice 56 (NYC)

Updated: Dec 25, 2023

Italian food is ubiquitous in NYC, and hence the standards have been raised to an exceptional level in the city. I wanted to sample some but did not want to stray too far from the hotel, hence Felice 56. Was it any good? Time to find out...

Chicken Liver Mousse

Ideal for:

  • When you want a quiet intimate dinner for two with some wine.

  • Those that really appreciate authentic Italian food.

  • A group birthday party given the extensive menu.

Ambience & Décor

From the bar area as soon as you walk in to the comfy, cosy booth seating at the rear of the restaurant, the design of this restaurant oozed class. The premium décor made a great first impression and encouraged me that this was going to be a premium meal. Great touch with the cool paintings and plant-life. The ambience was also tempered, which made having a classy meal easy.

Service

The waiters and waitresses were all dressed as if they were at a Michelin restaurant, which all added to the classy vibe Felice 56 went for. Service was lovely and welcoming.

Food

Mushroom, garlic, truffle oil, chilli, and garlic pappardelle

The Crostino Toscano (see above) was chicken liver mousse on toasted bread served with onion confit atop, crispy sage and authentic Italian salami. The dish was delicious and faultless. The special main was a mushroom, garlic, truffle oil, chilli, and garlic pappardelle (see left). The combination and freshness of all the ingredients were amazing, and the portion was hearty. The same could also be said of the Tonnarelli Cacio e Pepe. I was impressed on how well both the mains were made and presented. The sights, smells and taste were all on point. The Tiramisu to finish was also a culinary treat and one of the best I have had. Overall, given the fact that we stumbled upon Felice 56, this was a culinary surprise and delight. NYC really does produce fantastic Italian restaurants. My only gripe was that the prices were steep. Overall, I liked Felice 56, and hence gets an A rating.

Final grade: A

Final comment: A hidden Italian gem in NYC that deserved plenty of plaudits.
