Deemed to be one of London's finest steak restaurants, critics laud its succulent steaks, sublime sides and delicious drinks. Time to see if it was worth the hype. Was it any good? Time to find out...

I must confess my photos of Hawksmoor Seven Dials are not great, and I must re-visit to get better ones (darn!).
Ambience & Décor
The bar area and restaurant have a retro look with its wooden fixtures and fittings, exposed brickwork and columns to segregate the restaurant. This type of venue is suitable for any occasion, whether it be corporate or casual. Boisterous diners created a lovely vibe.
Service
The waiter was helpful, cheery and despite being busy, very attentive. Service was better than other steak restaurants, although I know this varies depending on the branch.
Food
I selected the 400g sirloin steak (medium rare) with a creamy béarnaise sauce and half lobster with garlic butter to share. The succulent steak was clearly of a good quality as its natural flavours were the highlight. The lobster was perfectly grilled and tasted like the catch of the day. The accompanying creamed spinach, mac & cheese and triple cooked chips were awesome, with my favourite being the fries.
This hearty meal was concluded with my favourite dessert, Eton Mess. This iteration had an interesting twist of raspberry compote drizzled over the meringue, which worked well. Sadly, since the time of my review, this has been discontinued. The current Pannacotta reads the most appealing.
Hawksmoor proudly wear the ‘the best steak restaurant in the UK’ tag, and it’s a difficult one to wrestle out of their hands. I have been to numerous Hawksmoors and all offer something different, but the established blueprint brings each implacable success. Easy A+ rating.
