Hawksmoor Wood Wharf (London)

Updated: Jan 7

Hawksmoor has been at the forefront of steak restaurants in London for years, but I have had some poor experiences in some of my undocumented visits too, so was it any good? Time to find out...

Hawksmoor Wood Wharf Location

Ideal for:

  • Steak lovers that want a good quality meal.

  • A lovely meal with dates or mates.

  • Those that have large appetites.

Ambience & Décor

The exterior looked stunning and in-keeping with the glass-and-metal, futuristic theme of Canary Wharf (see above). I took plenty of photos. The restaurant does use wood aplenty inside in keeping with the Wood Wharf area. The large glass windows encasing the restaurant let in plenty of natural light. I loved the interior and exterior and it was, for me, the best Hawksmoor setting, close with Kings Cross.

Service

The service at this Hawksmoor was pleasant. I thought it being new, it would be a bit creaky, but I felt we got plenty of attention.

Food

Filet Mignon, Bearnaise, Sweet Potato, Creamed Spinach

The Potted beef & bacon with Yorkshires & onion gravy was the best at this Hawksmoor as they did not skimp on the delicious onion gravy, unlike the Shoreditch branch once. Beef and bacon were a beautiful complement. The dense meatiness was cut with the lightness of the Yorkshire Pudding with the texture and strong flavours from the gravy adding another level to the dish.

I decided to change my steak and sides order to test Hawksmoor. I went for the 300g Fillet (medium rare), Creamed spinach and baked sweet potato and Peppercorn sauce. The steak was the usual perfection, the baked potatoes were sweet and slightly smoky which I liked, and the spinach was delicious creamy. The peppercorn sauce gave the missing kick and silky-smooth texture missing from the spinach. Overall, the décor, service and food were amazing and being bathed in sunlight, contributed to my mood. Hawksmoor Wood Wharf, for me, was the best all-round branch I have been too and hence a slam dunk A+ rating.

Final grade: A+

Final comment: The Hawksmoor experience was still unerringly brilliant - must try!
