Home X - Home Dining (London)

Updated: Dec 25, 2023

Due to COVID-19, the demand for home dining skyrocketed. Many places from mainstream restaurants to experience sites are cashing in. Home X's dining experience was recommended, but was it any good? Time to find out...

Chateaubriand, Chimichurri, Mac & Cheese

Ideal for:

  • Eating great dishes when you don’t have the ingredients to make them

  • Having that fancy meal from the comfort of your home

  • Wanting to create a magical date night experience

Home X have an array of fine dining home experiences that they change on a monthly basis to keep that mystery alive and entice repeat purchase. My love for chateaubriand steak meant doing the Chateau X-Chateaubriand menu.

The Chateau X kit was neatly packed with beautifully crafted menu placards and a premium-feeling booklet that explained the step-by-step guide on how to cook the steak and heat up the accompaniments. Upon first glance at the sleek, chic, black packaging, you can tell why this experience is £70.

Chateaubriand, Chimichurri, Mac & Cheese

The chateaubriand itself was a delicious, sumptuous and tender cut of beef that was treacle cured for added sweetness and flavour depth. The meat was beautifully seasoned (kit comes with salt), packed with natural, premium bovine flavour. I adored the steak and despite not being cooked by a Michelin-starred chef, there was no evident difference. A testament to the product!

The accompanying Salsa Verde was delicious and not too oily. Earthy notes from the herbs and garlic, combined with the zest of lemon juice and tartness from the capers complemented the sweet treacle and beef to perfection.

The side dishes were Colcannon Potatoes and Four Cheese Macaroni and Cheese. Mac and Cheese and steak are an ineffable mix that just works. The dish was beautifully prepped with the marrow crumb a pleasant twist. I am not a fan of cabbage and leeks, but mix it in with bacon and new potatoes, and suddenly I am polishing it all off. I have to say – both sides were incredible, moreish and harmonised with the beef perfectly. The portion size was also very hearty.

For desserts there was Tiramisu. Tiramisu lovers will rejoice at how good this was. The coffee flavoured was not too intense but packed a punch. I loved whipped mascarpone and this was delicious and really cut the coffee flavour. Like with the rest, this was polished off, and a fantastic way to end a meal.

It is clear Chateau X and Home X know what they are doing. From the beautiful way the experienced was packaged, to the premium ingredients used across all courses, they are incredible at this home dining experience. Some may argue £70 is expensive, but if you went to a London restaurant and had this meal it would be far more expensive. I will definitely come back to Home X, and try the rest of their offerings – with our without COVID-19. I think this experience deserved an A+ rating.
