Lobos Meat and Tapas Soho (London)

Updated: Dec 25, 2023

London was awash with Tapas places, but there are only a handful of good ones. Lobos Meat and Tapas appeared all over my Instagram from fellow restaurant bloggers and they said it was amazing. Was it any good? Time to find out…

Patatas Bravas, Prawns, Croquetas

Ideal for:

  • Date night as the venue had these tucked away nooks, perfect for two.

  • When you go for a group dinner, as there is something for everyone.

  • Lovers of tapas, as there is great selection and good portion sizes.

Ambience & Décor

This cosy restaurant was tucked away in the heart of Soho, and it was a bit of a squeeze inside, so I would bear this in mind when booking a group dinner. The other issue with the small tables was the lack of space if you ordered many dishes. Lobos was a plethora of wood, from the bar, the floor, the shelves, the tables, and chairs. This rustic look meant easy maintenance, but it was not the prettiest sight. You do not come to Lobos Meat and Tapas for the décor. The restaurant was busy, but not unbearably loud.

Service

Despite being busy, the service was very efficient, and the staff were friendly.

Food

Charcuterie Board

For a dining party of four, we ordered eight dishes off the menu. The Prawn Croquetas needed more prawns as per my dining companions. However, the Prawns in Garlic was more of a triumph. I cannot eat prawns; hence I could not comment myself. The Croquetas was filled with Ham, chorizo, and smoked bacon, and was delicious. The portion was also decent for the price. I think this was my favourite dish. The Cheese Selection was lovely, but I do not favour strong cheese. The Manchego with the quince and biscuit was the best combination – I just wish there was more of it. The Charcuterie Board (see left) had chorizo, salchichon, loin and Iberico ham.

Patatas Bravas, Chorizo

I am particular about what meats I consume, but the entire selection was delicious and plentiful. The Chorizo al vino (see right) was doused in wine and complemented the natural taste of the chorizo. The final dishes were the tapas classics of Meatballs and Patatas Bravas (see right). Both were delicious and full of flavour. The problem with these dishes at other tapas places was that the meatballs are too mushy and the potatoes too soggy, and not crispy. Lobos did not have this issue. Overall, all the dishes sampled were tasty, and I think it was a triumph. I would happily recommend Lobos Meat and Tapas, and hence it’s a solid A rating.

Final grade: A

Final comment: As tapas places go, Lobos Meat and Tapas was fantastic. Impressed!
