London in the Sky is one of the most talked dining experiences of 2019, and with places hard to get, when the chance arose, I took it. Gimmicks can be hit or miss, so was it any good? Time to find out…

View from London in the Sky

London in the Sky was an incredible, memorable and thrilling dining experience like no other. You sit on a 22-seat Sky Table for 45 mins, that was hoisted 100 ft in the air to give diners unfiltered, unbelievable and unforgettable views of London. Gave new meaning to ‘al fresco’ dining! However, the North Greenwich location meant one cannot see more of London’s iconic landmarks.

Prosecco with a view

The support team harnessed you in and there was a lever that allowed diners to recline to get that sensation of floating. That gave some thrilling and exhilarating moments. The mid May weather started miserably; there was nothing protecting me from getting soaked by the rain, but the day brightened and warmed quickly. The weather at the end of the meal was a perfect way to finish the experience.

Gimmicky dining experiences rests on its laurels and the food is an afterthought. Glad to say that the ‘high dining’ concept did not disappoint from a culinary perspective.

American-style pancakes with Chantilly cream, Maple Syrup, Peanut Bristle.

Started with Prosecco and complimentary pastries, that were slightly soggy from the drenching they received. The American-style pancakes with Chantilly Cream, Maple Syrup and peanut bristle was amazing. Pancakes were soft and spongey, soaking up with the sweet syrup. The Chantilly Cream was light, fluffy and moreish, but tasted really decadent. The sweetness from the cream and syrup was cut by the savoury pancakes and peanuts. The crunch from the nuts added that texture change. Overall, the portion was aplenty and it tasted amazing. Thankfully the entire experience passed without me dropping anything, which is a rarity for me!

London in the Sky was an experience that all gastronomes should try. For me, despite my vertigo, the experience was memorable and that is what you want. The food was good and the concept was well executed. However, this was the most expensive breakfast/brunch you are likely to do as my dining party paid a whopping £530 for 5 people for the standard brunch plus Prosecco. The astronomical price, coupled with the location, the fact you only get 45 minutes and London’s indeterminate weather, all meant that it fails to hit the top notes, but a solid A- rating.
