MeatLiquor (London)

Updated: Feb 12

Deep in the heart of Marylebone, MeatLiqour brings authentic US food across the pond. It has all of the classics, along with big pitchers of drinks, but was it any good? Time to find out...

Philly cheese steak + Chilli Cheese fries

Ideal for:

  • Meat lovers

  • Liquor lovers

  • Large appetites

Ambience & Décor

Despite queuing for an interminable age, one cannot be seated till the full party is there, which is impractical for groups. The dingy interior with the scattered memorabilia and quirky interior design made it feel distinctly American. The boisterous night created great vibes.

Service

Alan the bartender was a laugh and provided prompt service. Table service was done with candour and a smile, and was quite prompt. This was especially pleasing as the waiting staff had to deal with a packed house and drunk customers.

Food

Philly cheese steak + Chilli Cheese fries

Ordered the Philly cheese steak, and an accompaniment of green chilli cheese fries (left). The steak meat itself could have been jazzed up further with the condiments, American cheese and chilli making up for the shortcomings. Chilli fries were scrumptious, and hot as advertised, which was a surprise and relief. The cholesterol-filled meal didn’t stop there as I sampled some of the chicken offerings, which were the highlight of the night. The chicken marinade was bursting with flavours and worth it.

No American restaurant is complete without a food challenge. MeatLiquor's Triple Chilli Challenge would have you consume the green chilli cheese burger, chilli dog, and chilli cheese fries all in 10 minutes. If successful, the meal is free. Sounds intriguing, but I am not into Man v Food type experiences. MeatLiquor is a good concept as it does the meat and liquor well, but I think the interminable queuing and lack of flavouring in the meat means and A- rating.

Final grade: A-

Final comment: Great American fun in the heart of London.
