Mildreds has been at the pinnacle of vegetarian restaurants in London, but with others encroaching on its space, can it cut it still? Was it any good? Time to find out...
Ideal for:
Newly converted vegetarians
Vegetarians bored of the usual restaurant choice
Meat lovers looking to expand their repetoire
Ambience & Décor
After a 45 minute queue, the cosy interior had a simple, understated and low maintenance vibe. For people of my girth, cramped dining is tricky and the experience felt too intrusive. The narrow walls and high ceilings reverberated sound, giving a raucous atmosphere.
Service
Despite being packed for dinner, the service staff do make it look easy. Table turnaround at Mildreds is key and the team manage this effortless all day everyday. Impressed with the quality of service delivered.
Food
The best word to describe Mildreds menu is multicultural. From curries to burritos, it is an ensemble of the best vegetarian dishes from around the world. The Middle Eastern platter to start was delightful with the falafel being the best. The beetroot yoghurt dip and chilli feta dip were scrumptious too. For mains, it was the Burger of the Day (below).
The patty was made of spiced corn and was typically Mexican. Served in a sourdough bun with home-made relish, red onion and rocket, the burger was very big, and incredibly tasty. The ingredients harmoniously serenaded my mouth, as each bite was better than the last. The side fries coming with a delicious basil mayo. Although this image is from a fellow blogger, it depicts the meal perfectly.
Mildreds came to approximately £20 with a soft drink. Cheap eats of outstanding quality can be hard to find, but look no further than Mildreds. The queuing and cramped interior was a bugbear, so Mildreds gets a solid A rating.

Final grade: A
Final comment: A vegetarian and vegan masterclass. Great food for great value.
