Ms. Piper's (Cayman)

Updated: Dec 25, 2023

There are many places in the Cayman Islands where you can go for casual drinks and food, but few are as pretty or quirky as Ms Pipers, a bar tucked in the shadows of the Hilton. Was it any good? Time to find out…

Keralan Chicken with Curried Bulgur Wheat salad

Ideal for:

  • When you want to be off the beaten track and go somewhere quiet to chill.

  • Having a light dinner before heading out for a night out.

  • Having some quirky yet delicious cocktails.

Ambience & Décor

Ms Piper’s is tucked away, surrounded by large palm trees, flora, and lit up with beautiful fairy lights in the shadow of the Hilton hotel. The random assortment of furniture, menus on postcards and the weekly live jazz music singing all adds to the quirky charm and vibe. Due to the secluded nature, the ambience is always relaxed – even on jazz nights. The venue is small so that adds to its exclusivity.

Service

Service is always done with a smile here – whether it is in the restaurant or at the bar.

Food

Keralan Chicken with Curried Bulgur Wheat salad

Ms Piper’s switches up its lunch and dinner menus. Whilst some of their biggest hits are on both, the biggest change at lunch is that you can mix any protein with any salad, and the selection changes monthly. This month I had Keralan Chicken with Curried Bulgur Wheat salad (see left). The salad on paper had all the vegetables you would want, such as, peppers, onions, but it was the curry flavouring that ruined this salad and a write-off. The chicken was moist and packed full of spice from the Keralan sauce – although I would deduct points for authenticity, as Kerala is not known for spice. I have had far better for lunch here, so clearly it is hit as miss each month.

House Burger

The dinner menu is more fixed, with the highlights being the the mushroom & Emmental cheese Croquetas, Beef Empanadas and the Seafood Tagliatelle. The let-down in some respects was the House Burger (see right). Whilst it has classics such as smoked gouda, chuck and brisket patty and a burger sauce, it does not wow you. Not worth the $20 price tag. However, for both lunch and dinner, Ms Piper’s does try to mix innovative ingredients, which I applaud. It is more of the same with the drinks menu, as Ms Piper’s crank up the quirky on these too. Some are really an acquired taste, but if you love fruity based cocktails, one of the best around is the La Vida Es Un Carnival (Rum, smoked berries mix, lemon meringue foam on top) – this is one of my most favoured cocktails on island.

Whilst you may fall in love with the venue, the food and drinks are hit and miss due to the quirky nature of the place, but that is to be expected. With the ever-changing lunch specials, some will be better than others. I applaud its innovative style, and hence I do rate Ms Piper’s an A- rating.
