There are so many Italian places on island, but Pane and Pasta have dishes that use specialities from different regions of Italy that I had not seen on other menus, thus intriguing me. Was it any good? Time to find out…
Ideal for:
When you crave Italian but not sure what exactly you want.
When you want some good food but are on a budget.
Date night with some wine and relaxed vibes.
Ambience & Décor
Given we were al fresco in their dimly lit façade area, there was no real décor to speak of and it was quite quiet, so no real ambience. Perfect for a date night.
Service
Despite the eery silence outside, the service was very pleasant and forthcoming.
Food
Went 2 main dishes to share. Firstly, the Rigatoni alla Norcina (see left) caught my eye because Norcia in Umbria is famous for its meat. The Italian sausage complemented the truffle oil well, but given that the white sauce lacked seasoning, I wanted more truffle oil to give the dish more oomph. Agua do something similar with tomato sauce and I think that was better.
The Pane & Pasta signature pizza dish had Italian sausage, pepperoni, ham, salami, and we added mushrooms. Overall, this meat feast was tasty and surprisingly, it was not too oily either, which is a rarity. The pizza was not overflowing and appetising, but again it was comforting and tasty without blowing me away.
Overall, I think Pane and Pasta have used all the right ingredients in their dishes to create a flavour sensation – it is just the finesse; a tad too much sauce, not enough seasoning, and all of it means it’s a slight near miss but given the fantastic prices, Pane and Pasta gets a B- rating.

Final grade: B-
Final comment: Have all the ingredients for a successful recipe, just more finesse please!
