Denham estate venison ‘saucisson’, apple remoulade, purple mustard

Ideal for:

  • Special occasions

  • After pay day

  • Date night

Ambience & Décor

The Langham hotel's historic British architecture continues in the dining room. Big bay windows, art deco wood panelling and ornately-framed paintings bring the European Grand Café styling to London. The large wiry chandeliers accentuate the decorative crown moulding and the room. The crowd tonight created a mellow buzz that was pleasant.

Service

Polished waiters in their droves were constantly encircling the table, topping up glasses, making suggestions, and serving courses. Enjoyed humorous exchanges with the waiters, which reminded me, this kind of personal service is sparse these days.

Food

Denham estate venison ‘saucisson’, apple remoulade, purple mustard

For starters, the Denham estate venison ‘saucisson’, apple remoulade, purple mustard (left) was very tasty. The seemingly odd combo of ‘saucission’ (pâté), ‘remoulade’ (sauce) and mustard was a culinary treat. Beautiful sweet-savoury balance and texture complements made this rustic dish exceed expectation. The plentiful portion an antithesis of fine dining.

Butter-roast Scotch beef sirloin, green garlic butter, ox tongue potatoes

The steak in the Butter-roast Scotch beef sirloin, green garlic butter, ox tongue potatoes (right) was cooked well without amazing, hinting at a more mediocre cut of meat. The deluge of sauce was visually unappealing but paired well with the potatoes and steak. Highlight was the potato; one long curly roast potato with ox-tail crisps embedded in the curls. Crisp on the outside, fluffy inside and the oxtail was deliciously cooked. Again, ample portion.

Madagascan vanilla crème brûlée, cocoa nib shortbreads

Madagascan vanilla crème brûlée, cocoa nib shortbreads (left) was the perfect combination of sweet and savoury. The top cracked beautifully to reveal the creamy, smooth, luscious consistency of the brûlée. The lovely aroma coupled with the heavy vanilla essence flavouring was scrumptious. The shortbread counteracted the sweetness, and was so tasty. Divine dessert.

Roux at the Landau is an elegant restaurant serving fantastic French dishes with a modern twist assisted by superlative service. Perfect for date night and given the portions, you will not leave hungry. The slightly underwhelming main cost Roux at the Landau the highest accolades, but still gets a solid A rating.
