Scarlett Green (London)

Updated: Feb 11

It was the first foodie weekend of 2019, and there was no better way to it kick off than visiting one of the newer kids on the brunch block. Scarlett Green was an Aussie import, but was it any good? Time to find out…

Buttermilk blueberry pancakes, fresh berries, mascarpone, pure maple

Ideal for:

  • A cheap and cheerful brunch place

  • Trying a newer kid on the block

  • Chilling with mates or a date

Ambience & Décor

Scarlett Green festive facade

The colourful trees with the dark façade was an Instagram moment, whilst in keeping with the wintery vibes. The two-storey venue is cosy, homely and rustic. The otherwise plain interior is livened by a plethora of artwork. It is good without being spectacular. Relaxed Sunday brunch vibes in full flow.

Service

I would have hoped any service quirks would have been ironed out in their initial months of trade, but I felt their staff was still a bit raw, despite us being a large group.

Food

Buttermilk blueberry pancakes, fresh berries, mascarpone, pure maple

The Aussie heritage was present in their menu, but I made a beeline for their Buttermilk blueberry pancakes, fresh berries, mascarpone, pure maple (right). For the price, the portion was ample. Each pancake was delicious in their own right, with a generous helping of perfectly whipped mascarpone and savoury berries. The maple and chocolate garnish gave the much-needed sweet finish to the savoury ensemble. Taste, texture and presentation were on point. The additional bacon side was tough and overcooked. The berry smoothie ordered was also tasty.

Scarlett Green was an enjoyable affair, but tweaks needed to service and food. However, for that price, the scrummy pancakes present fantastic value.

As such, a B rating seems apt.

Final grade: B

Final comment: An Aussie import that does some cracking pancakes. Good brunch place.
