Sea Containers has always been a personal favourite of mine. I have been to their bars, and stayed in the hotel itself, but it was now time to check out their weekend bottomless brunch. Was it any good? Time to find out...

Ambience & Décor
The décor inside looked very classy and very becoming of the eclectic vibe the restaurant went for. I loved the dark wood panelling on the walls and the contrasting light ceiling with the low hanging chic lights. The fixtures were all the same mahogany-esque colour. There was something about the predominantly dark-colours with the contrasting ceiling that gave a premium feel. The restaurant’s party trick was the river-facing façade (see left) being all glass that opened up in the Summer. Diners situated here had a lovely breeze that greeted them but also a fantastic view of the City. From my table, I was looking directly at one of the most aesthetically pleasing monuments in London; St Paul’s Cathedral. I loved the décor and view. Weekend brunch meant the spectrum of diners were ladies of leisure having a laugh to intimate couples. Combined together, the atmosphere was electric, but conversation was still very easy.
Service
The lady serving us the bottomless brunch was very attentive and made sure our glasses were rarely empty. She was professional and she did not detract from the meal.
Food
For bottomless brunch, one selected from a reduced menu but all of the items were tantalising. I decided to select the Sea Co Mac and Cheese with braised beef and garlic crumbs. The portion was tremendous, and for a Mac & Cheese lover like myself, it was a delight to see. For me, the braised beef fell off the bone and was perfectly slow-cooked but personally, I wanted the beef marinade to be more pronounced. The mac and cheese itself was done well but again, I would prefer the cheese to be stronger just to give the mac some energy. The garlic crumb added little. Overall, I felt the dish lacked flavour and wow-factor. I was thoroughly disappointed it did not blow me away.
For desserts, I went for one of my favourites; Eton Mess. I can thankfully report that this was fantastic. Whilst not inherently complex to make, the trick is to make it look appetising. The dessert looked and tasted great.
Sea Containers has so many strings to its bow; beautiful boutique hotel, glamorous bar and classy restaurant with a unique view. However today, the food did not match the standards the Sea Containers usually sets. The main was nondescript with the dessert and prosecco being the saving grace. I will come back as I love the venue, but the food needs to up its game. Overall a B Rating.

Final grade: B
Final comment: Beautiful restaurant with a cracking view; shame the food fell flat.
