The Breakfast Club London Bridge (London)

Updated: Feb 11

The offerings of much loved brunch classics propelled The Breakfast Club to ‘fan favourite’ status. I loved the Canary Wharf branch, but it was the turn of the London Bridge one. Was it any good? Time to find out...

Chicken & Waffles; Mac & Cheese

Ideal for:

  • Wanting some good quality American dishes

  • Satisfying your comfort food craving

  • Eating on a budget

Ambience & Décor

The London Bridge branch décor is a bit haphazard. If the Chuckle Brothers did interiors, it would look like this. The random assortment of wood made it feel more shabby than chic. I guess it is this wacky feel this branch is trying to create. Packed full of diners, it was a lively vibe for Sunday but in such a confined space, felt a bit claustrophobic.

Service

For such a heaving restaurant, the service was really friendly and quite attentive. I did not feel we were being rushed out the door either, which can happen for such establishments.

Food

Chicken & Waffles; Mac & Cheese

The only dish I sampled was the Fried Chicken & Waffles (left). This was with mac & cheese, pickles, jalapeno, pepper sauce & maple syrup on the side. This American concoction has found its way into the heart of gastronomes in London. The sweet-savoury blend was a perfect brunch dish. The fried chicken was perfectly crisped without being overly oily whilst keeping the chicken moist. The pepper sauce added some much-needed heat.

The risk is that the waffles can go soggy, but they were fully intact, fluffy and of beautiful texture. Paired well with the chicken and pepper sauce but I found myself preferring the waffle with chicken and a hint of maple syrup.

Macaroni and cheese are an ineffably delicious combination, and this was no exception. The jalapeno added an X Factor and was a great complement to the rest of the dish. The large portion meant I was fully sated.

The Breakfast Club has been a brunch stalwart ever since it opened in 2005, and it is easy to see why. The food is tasty, fantastic value, and great vibes. The dishevelled interior costs it full marks and means I prefer the Canary Wharf branch. Easy A Rating.
