I have earlier said that The Gate Seymour Place is up there as one of my most favourite vegetarian restaurant. I had a friend over from abroad, and thought I would impress them with The Gate. Was it any good? Time to find out…
Ideal for:
Those looking for a special vegetarian restaurant
A cozy spot for a weekend brunch
Weekend date
Ambience & Décor
The restaurant was the most lively I have ever seen it, and it was still what I would call serene. Perfect for a lazy Sunday brunch. The minimalist interior is the simple, trendy and chic; appropriate for the affluent area. Think this is a perfect date restaurant.
Service
The service was great from start to finish. The waitress was attentive and was accommodating to our needs. My dining companion had dietary particulars and they made sure all dishes were on point. Once again, service was impeccable.
Food
In addition to the alcohol, decided to have one savoury and shared the sweet dish. Starting with the savoury, I chose the Wild Mushroom Risotto Cake (left). This included a generous portion of sauté girolle, which were all cooked perfectly and gave the dish a strong earthy undertone. The creamy cep sauce was a highlight. It was utterly delicious and the perfect viscosity. Cep is another form of mushroom, but has a totally different taste and texture to the girolle. The accompaniment of rocket & lemon truffle dressing was a filling accompaniment and added to the Instagram appeal. This dish was gorgeous and a great celebration to mushrooms.
Whilst the risotto dish was amazing, the pancakes were not as impressive, but still good. Banana & Berry Pancakes (right) were a good combination but the maple syrup was a tad sickly. I think given the fruit, clotted cream would have been a better accompaniment. The pancakes were ample and well made.
Overall The Gate Seymour Place delivered another stellar performance. The décor, service and food were all decent and my dining companion had a great time. However, yet again, The Gate has a few minor niggles that meant this gets an A rating. However this visit reaffirmed my admiration for The Gate.

Final grade: A
Final comment: One of the best Vegetarian restaurants and a must try for all!
