The Kitchen Steakhouse (Cayman)

Updated: Dec 25, 2023

There is a plethora of steakhouses in the Cayman Islands, and this is another one to add to the list. The others are of a good standard, so The Kitchen must really stand out. Was it any good? Time to find out…

Steak, Broccolini, Peppercorn, Mash

Ideal for:

  • A bite to eat before you head across to the pub next door for a night out.

  • When you want to have a relaxed, quiet dinner with your date.

  • Steak lovers who have tried all the other options on the island.

Ambience & Décor

Given that the affiliated pub next door was always lively, The Kitchen Steakhouse was a more subdued, intimate, and refined vibe, that was perfect for our relaxed dinner. The interior resembled a pub - plethora of wood for easy maintenance, linoleum flooring, and a smattering of memorabilia on the wall. It was pleasant.

Service

Service was punctual and very attentive, despite being at capacity.

Food

Steak, Broccolini, Peppercorn, Mash

The solitary dish of House Smoked Steak (10 oz) with sides of Broccolini and Mashed Potatoes (see left) was quite enjoyable. The steak was well cooked in the main, but some parts were overdone, which was disappointing. However, the broccolis were perfectly seasoned and cooked al dente. The mashed potatoes were buttery and creamy but a bit bland. All of it paired well with the strong, dominant Peppercorn sauce (see left).

Overall, the food and the venue were no-nonsense and no-frills. Despite a lack of finesse and quality, the meal was affordable, hence The Kitchen gets a solid B rating.

Final grade: B

Final comment: Exceptional value for money, but steak aficionados will despair sadly.
