Top of the World (LV)

Updated: Jan 7

There is only one place to visit if you want an incredible view of The Strip and Las Vegas in general, and that is the Top of the World at the STRAT. Was this the classic case of style over substance, and any good? Time to find out…

Amazing View

Ideal for:

  • Doing that one memorable meal whilst you are in Las Vegas.

  • When you want to have a blowout meal after bonus time.

  • That special date night or a milestone birthday meal.

Ambience & Décor

Upon entering Top of the World, you are hit with the panoramic views of Las Vegas, and as first impressions went, it was stunning. The rotating nature meant this always changed. The interior was light and bright, with the black centre rails and onyx parts of the ceiling giving the contrast to make it feel classy. I liked the interior, and the sedate ambience to match.

Service

Akin to fine dining restaurants, all the waiters were suited and booted, and the sommelier served the wine. It was a classy affair, that kept in line with the décor.

Food

Garganelli Pasta, Lobster Bolognese, Ricotta

After wolfing down the delicious complementary bread, my Garganelli Pasta (see left) was Lobster bolognaise, spring peas, and whipped ricotta. Lobster should not be bolognaised, as it gave the restaurant an excuse to give a claw’s worth of meat. The ricotta was scant too. The garnish of cheep cheese and dried herbs was not enough to mask my disappointment or the lack of quality. It was a pathetically poor attempt, and one I daresay, I could re-create at home. At $56, that is a damning assessment. My dining companion however, had the total antithesis. The 10oz filet was beautifully cooked and seasoned, and the side of Red wine braised mushrooms with bacon and herbs was divine. Plenty of red wine and bacon to help me forget about my disappointment. The dichotomy between the two dinners was stark, which was a rarity for me. The breath-taking views of Las Vegas, the impeccable service, the steak, and mushrooms told me that I chose poorly on the menu, but the exorbitant prices were also a sore point. Overall, Top of the World gets a B- rating.

Final grade: B-

Final comment: Stunning view, décor, and service, but some menu items are naff!
