There are arguments as to what is the best steak restaurant on island. The newest one at time of writing, was Union Grill. The menu looks impressive, but is it as good as it looks? Was it any good? Time to find out…

Ambience & Décor
The light-dark contrast decor and the lowly-lit restaurant tells you that Union Grill was going for that classier establishment, and I think they do succeed, even nailing the velvety chairs and the Great Gatsby vibe from the logo. I like the décor and the demure ambience.
Service
Ever since it opened, Union has been plagued with indifferent service, and on my night, they were painfully slow and inattentive. Dinner dragged for hours it felt.
Food
For the look and the price, Union must deliver on the food, and overall, it did. All the starters looked heavenly, but I went it straight for the Ranch & Reef; 6oz CAB tenderloin + ½ lobster tail + buttered mash + béarnaise + dauphinoise potatoes (see left). The steak was cooked perfectly at medium-rare and well-seasoned; the grilled tails were also fleshy, succulent, and doused in delicious garlicky-butter and the buttered mash was so creamy it almost was a paste. It was a medley of heavenly, albeit rich, items. The dauphinoise potatoes were also delicious. The only disappointment was the, now removed, Eton mess sundae, that was trying to do a twist on a classic and failed.
Union Grill has since updated its menu and it has a plethora of mouth-watering, starters, mains, and desserts that means I will return. Is it the best steak on the island? I still think The Ritz or Steak Social at times is a tad better. It is pricey and for that you want perfection – which it was not, so overall a B rating.
