Wicked Spoon Buffet (LV)

Updated: Feb 6

I would never normally review a buffet, but the Wicked Spoon buffet at The Cosmopolitan hotel on The Strip, was an Instagram sensation for a bit, so I had to come see. Was it any good? Time to find out…

Meats Platter, Mashed Potato, Gravy, Mac & Cheese

Ideal for:

  • When you have worked up a massive appetite after pounding The Strip.

  • When you have picky eaters or those with dietary needs in a group.

  • A lovely hearty meal with unlimited drinks for a reasonable price.

Ambience & Décor

The cavernous open plan dining room and warming stations were akin to large buffet style eating establishments typically seen in the US. The décor was quite sleek – shiny, jet-black, onyx, marble flooring in the entranceway contrasted with a green panelled wall made it look classy on first impressions, and once you stepped inside, the décor of the dining room was also very modern and trendy. The room following the same theme as the entranceway with the highlight being the ornate light fittings. Lunchtime brunch here was vibrant so a good atmosphere.

Service

Service all round was quite good, given how many service staff was on hand to take orders, give drink refills and bring the bill.

Food

Dessert Platter

Overall, the food here was hit and miss. The highlights for me were the beef and pork items at the carvery with a lovely red wine gravy. This was accompanied by buttery mash potato topped with crispy bacon and a side of gooey, creamy, cheesy mac & cheese (see above). There was also a rabbit risotto that was divine, but in a place where there were hundreds of options, this was a poor return. I must add some of the meat in the carvery did look dry and I selected the better pieces. From a dessert perspective, it was better. The panna cotta, tiramisu and ice-cream station were all fantastic (see left), but I did the chocolate lava cake and other offerings were quite bland. Again, I just happened to pick well. Given we went bottomless, it was still good value and fun, so Wicked Spoon gets a B- rating.

Final grade: B-

Final comment: Lovely décor, and there were some gems – just some misses also!
